Tropical Traditions Organic Virgin Coconut Oil has a wonderfully sweet coconut flavor and a texture and richness reminiscent of rich creamery butter.
If you have tried other virgin coconut oils in the past and did not like the "oily" bland taste THIS is the organic virgin coconut oil for you. An oil like this can be eaten alone or on a piece of toast in the morning, and it will make your baked goods and sauted foods come alive like never before! This Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil is a truly unrefined coconut oil. This coconut oil is made on Mt. Banahaw from organic coconuts. Coconuts are used fresh (within 24 hours of harvest) from small family farms on Mt. Banahaw and other rural places in Quezon Province, the coconut capital of the Philippines. The volcanic soil of Mt. Banahaw makes these organic coconuts some of the most nutritionally rich coconuts in the world! Testing done in independent laboratories reveals a 50% - 57% content of lauric acid, and higher levels of phenolic antioxidants than most other coconut oils. The fresh coconut meat is shredded (wet milled), and then cold-pressed to make coconut milk. The milk is then fermented for 24-36 hours, and the oil is then separated and filtered from the curds. No chemical or high-heat treatment is used, and this oil contains no trans fatty acids. Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil is NOT mass produced. It is made by families who are coconut farmers using old-fashioned traditional methods that have been used here for hundreds of years. The coconut trees and family producers are certified organic according to strict USDA standards. The families who produce the oil are also trained according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards and re-certified each year. This high-grade Virgin Coconut Oil has a long shelf life due to the high anti-oxidant properties.
Coconut oil also does not turn rancid at room temperature, and will last for many months beyond the "Best By" date, and because it does not turn, coconut oils are one of the best choices for seasoning cast iron skillets and griddles. Simply heat your new, washed or old clean cast iron over high heat, put a half teaspoon (more for larger skillets) into the pan and spread, to re-season place the cast iron in a hot oven or over a hot barbeque grill for 5-10 minutes until the oil starts to smoke, then remove from heat (use caution!) and allow to cool. Coconut oil will not become sticky like corn oil or soy bean oil so there is no need to clean out any excess. Virgin Coconut Oil is a food, and is one of the best cooking oils you can use. It has been a staple cooking oil for thousands of years in tropical climates. As a cooking oil, its chemical structure is kept in tact and therefore is resistant to mutations of fatty acid chains even when used in higher cooking temperatures, unlike most vegetable oils. Virgin Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, a nutrient that supports the body's immune system. Lauric acid is also found in human mother's milk. Dr. Mary Enig suggests the average adult include about 3.5 tablespoons of coconut oil per day in their diet.
